Shelby is chief card designer. She is blessed with creativity, empathy and a love for learning. She exhibits an exceptional awareness of nature on a micro-scale. This is demonstrated by her passion for all living creatures and those long extinct. If a grasshopper is in trouble, she will try to save it. My fondest video of Shelby shows her putting a feather over an ant as a two-year-old where she says, “There, there, little ant…”
Parakeet Beach Designs is a mother and daughter team effort. I design the clothing and source all other products with an eye for quality handcraft and home wares. With our love for birds, beach life and Santa Fe or ‘south-western’ style, we have built a store to complement her cards.
In 2019 and 2020, Australia faced extensive ecological damage with widespread bushfires. Shelby, myself and many people here and abroad have been concerned about the significant loss of wildlife and have been observing the considerable efforts of the Friends of the Koala Inc. This group is dedicated to koala conservation and habitat preservation, mostly in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.
We dedicate our store to bird lovers, koala lovers and all who work in wildlife rescue. We hope you like our collections.
